"To Whom Shall We Go?"
JOY IN THE JOURNEY - THROUGH THE YEAR
July 25th 2019
Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life."
John 6:68
Simon's response to Jesus, spoken through slightly clenched teeth, represents an entirely different tone than his great confession, "You are the Christ." In the context of scandal and rejection by the departing disciples, the tone here is one of loyal despair.
The dilemma: Jesus is indeed a scandalous Lord, but there is no place else to go! He is the Lord; he alone possesses infinitely more than the bread he has just doled out to the hungry and confused crowd. He is the Bread of Life, the true Manna that has come down from heaven. The words that fall from his lips are alive and life-giving, no matter what scandalous effect they may have.
PRAY: Tell the Lord that He is your only hope, your Way, Truth and Life. Thank Him for His gift of eternal life and for His life within you.
